Last quarter lift gives Pies the edge

16th. August 2014.
After two runaway wins in the last two weeks, Mallala found the going much tougher at the Mallala Oval on Saturday where they finally overcame finals aspirant Two Wells by 15 points – 14-6 to 11-9. Mallala started well to lead by 16 points at the first break, with Brent Harris among the goals, but Two Wells lifted in the second and third quarter to be three points ahead at the last break, turning the ball over to their advantage on countless occasions..Like the good side they are, the Magpies worked harder in the last session – Jason Earl was a rock in defence, William Farrelly finally evened up in ruck with the high-leaping Ben Slattery, and Brad Hardie played four quarters of his style of dashing football to end an enthralling contest.
The victory leaves Mallala in second position, with the opportunity to finish on top, and the last game of the minor round against Hamley Bridge on August 30th. may well be a preview of this year’s grand final.
Reserves
Mallala Reserves paid the penalty of a slow start to their match, down by 20 points at quarter time and although they out-scored their opponents from that point, were never able to get in front – final scores were 8-9 to 8-2.

Senior Colts
Two Wells Seniors defeated the higher-ranked Mallala team in an even contest by 4 points – final scores 11-10 to 11-6. The Roosters got on top in the third quarter to set up a 29 point lead and the Pies last quarter lift was not quite enough to get the points.
Two Wells best was Josh Pellizari, followed by Noah Barnett and Jamie Humphrys and for the Pies Kyle Hummell continued his great form to be their best, Riley Thorne with his 6 goals was next, followed by Josh Watson and Lachlan O’Leary.
Junior Colts

The Rooster boys held Mallala goal-less in the first term and and never looked back as they cruised to victory.
